Series: Partials Sequence #2
Published by Balzer & Bray on February 26th 2013
Kira Walker has found the cure for RM, but the battle for the survival of humans and Partials is just beginning. Kira has left East Meadow in a desperate search for clues to who she is. That the Partials themselves hold the cure for RM in their blood cannot be a coincidence—it must be part of a larger plan, a plan that involves Kira, a plan that could save both races. Her companions are Afa Demoux, an unhinged drifter and former employee of ParaGen, and Samm and Heron, the Partials who betrayed her and saved her life, the only ones who know her secret. But can she trust them?
Meanwhile, back on Long Island, what's left of humanity is gearing up for war with the Partials, and Marcus knows his only hope is to delay them until Kira returns. But Kira's journey will take her deep into the overgrown wasteland of postapocalyptic America, and Kira and Marcus both will discover that their greatest enemy may be one they didn't even know existed.
The second installment in the pulse-pounding Partials saga is the story of the eleventh hour of humanity's time on Earth, a journey deep into places unknown to discover the means—and even more important, a reason—for our survival.
I have to tell you that sequels give me somewhat of a mixed feeling. They make me feel both excited and nervous. Very nervous because some don’t live up to your expectations and will leave you really disappointed, wishing you’d never read the book in the first place. Sequels really make or break a book . So lets start with a big round of applause for Dan Wells, because Fragments is EPIC!
The story alternates between different point of views and you get to know a whole new side to the Partials. We even read some chapters in Samm’s perspective, who has quite some trouble expressing his thoughts and emotions, this makes his interactions with Kira so much more interesting. I just fell in love with Samm.
The plotline is just full of surprises. You think you know what is going to happen, and then something happens that leaves you like a gaping fish, staring open-mouthed at the book like a complete idiot wondering what the hell just happened? *points an accusing finger towards the last pages of the book*
The romance that was lacking in the first book makes a subtle appearance in the sequel. The sweet gestures and words are building and totally swoon worthy. They grow together and because it builds slowly it is realistic. No insta-love, no unrealistic magic love thing happening, just understanding and connection that builds until it slowly grows in something beautiful.
The last thing I wish to say about this sequel is something I mentioned before *the accusing finger pointing at the ending* because that ending I loved and hated simultaneously. There was the one moment that I thought “FINALLY! This is what I have been waiting for!!!” and then the next moment I was like “Wait? What just happened! No… You got to be kidding me!!”
At the moment I am seriously considering what bribing I have to do in order to get myself a copy of Ruins. *smiles and waves at Dan Wells* I know some people already received and ARC and I need one badly, because that cliff-hanger that Fragments ended with is just so unfair! (and very bad for my health I might add *winks*)
