Alyssa Gardner has been down the rabbit hole and faced the bandersnatch. She saved the life of Jeb, the guy she loves, and escaped the machinations of the disturbingly seductive Morpheus and the vindictive Queen Red. Now all she has to do is graduate high school and make it through prom so she can attend the prestigious art school in London she's always dreamed of.

That would be easier without her mother, freshly released from an asylum, acting overly protective and suspicious. And it would be much simpler if the mysterious Morpheus didn’t show up for school one day to tempt her with another dangerous quest in the dark, challenging Wonderland—where she (partly) belongs.

As prom and graduation creep closer, Alyssa juggles Morpheus’s unsettling presence in her real world with trying to tell Jeb the truth about a past he’s forgotten. Glimpses of Wonderland start to bleed through her art and into her world in very disturbing ways, and Morpheus warns that Queen Red won’t be far behind.

If Alyssa stays in the human realm, she could endanger Jeb, her parents, and everyone she loves. But if she steps through the rabbit hole again, she'll face a deadly battle that could cost more than just her head

What I thought NEWThis series! It just keeps getting better and better! It’s just, all the feelings, and all the awesomeness and brilliantness in the way A.G. Howard created this slightly macabre version of the original story. I have so much love for the world and characters she created. It’s a favorite, both Splintered and Unhinged are just so magically mad that they really can’t belong anywhere else than on my favorites shelf!

I’ve said it before in my review for Splintered, but I’ll say it again, the writing is out of this world. It’s the writing that makes the story so powerful. It’s written so incredibly vividly, the whole story just comes alive with every word you read and page you turn.

Then for the plot, which is every bit as brilliant as in Splintered! There’s quite a few unexpected twists and turns along the way, and boy do they keep you on your toes! All the feels! I just kept on reading till early in the morning (that’s when I finished it… And would finally allow myself to get some shut eye).

Of course then we have ALL the characters. The beloved, mysteriously wicked, and deceiving Morpheus. The fierce, sometimes ignorant, and incredibly brave Alyssa. The loyal, a bit controlling, but edgy in a good way, Jeb. This time around there’s more attention paid to Alyssa’s family, we get to know her mother, as well as her father better. Family history gets revealed which adds more depth to Alyssa’s parents and does their characters justice. And of course, never to forget, all the other Wonderland creatures, all odd and slightly mad in their own way (some a bit more than the other…).

I think what I loved most about Unhinged is the contrast in setting compared to Splintered. While Splintered was set in Wonderland, Unhinged is set in our world. A.G. Howard literally brings the madness, with all it’s awesomeness and creepiness, to us.

A.G. Howard does magic, romance, and madness like no other. The world she created is addictive, beautiful and macabre, quite the combination that leads to a brilliant series that I absolutely LOVE. Ensnared can’t come fast enough!
